Cold Weather Pet Care
With the recent arctic blast that has swept much of the nation we are painfully aware of how important it is for us to wear our hats and gloves, but don’t forget about your dogs and cats. When the temperatures drop to near 0 like that have in much of the nation it is best to keep pets indoors.
If your dog lives outdoors, it is important that they have a dog house that is elevated and has a few inches of cedar shaving, straw or a blanket to help keep in body heat. But when it gets this cold it is wise to bring these dogs inside too.
If you are going for a walk, consider a dog sweater for your short haired dogs. While these may look a little silly, they really will help to keep your dog warm. If your dog spends much of his time outdoors remember to feed them a little more food because keeping the body warm burns up lots of calories.
